Vote for Stacey Barrett!

About me

I am a creative who is advocating for a kinder generation. I have seen that people want to be better, and they will when given the opportunity. I enjoy spending time with the people I care about most and not letting a single second go to waste.

In UJ, I am currently studying a Bcom in Accounting, hoping to one day become a Chartered Accountant. And, I am a proud mentor in the Akani Dayhouse, so catch me there!☺️

My Top 10 Journey😝

I didn't actually believe it when I saw that letter. All I saw was Top 10 acceptance, and I jumped out of my seat to tell my mom (even though technically no one else was meant to know😂).

My mom immediately said her classic line of "well I already knew you would get in". She has always been my biggest supporter, and she is the person who lead me to start my advocacy. Without my mom, I wouldn't be as kind, or as considerate of the world around me. I wouldn't be the person I am today without her.

I hated having to keep the Top 10 announcement secret, but it was well worth the wait for when everyone got to see all the work we put in to be there. I am so grateful for this opportunity and would love to become the next Miss UJ APK to continue my journey.

Nelson Mandela Day☺️

Being part of the journey this far has taught me so much. It has taught me how important it is to surround yourself with people who inspire you and how important it is to actually visit your community. During the bootcamp, we road bikes around the University with the Padel Green club at UJ. I had never heard of the bike club until then. Then on Nelson Mandela Day, we visited Woodside Sanctuary. I got to see something that is so close to UJ, and yet something never mentioned.

That is why this Pageant is so important. We get to experience so much more and reach so many more people than we ever would have known about. It's not just a beauty contest, it is a community contest.

My top 30 journey

Making it into Top 30 was incredible. I had the chance to redeem myself after getting into Top 30 last year but not making it further.

I knew that this year was the year. I felt better, more confident and I enhanced my ideas on what was truly needed at UJ. From the start, I was more prepared and I wanted more. Even after the interview, I felt great. It was actually melancholic.

I knew the competition was tough but, unlike last year, I didn't compare myself. I wanted this for me, and not because I was better than someone else. This was for me.

My hobbies

I have many things that I love to do in my spare time. For example, I am part of a community theatre group called the Franklin Players. They are a non-profit organization that helps spread the joy of theatre. I love being on stage, I play the ukulele and I very much enjoy the attention.😂

Besides that, I really enjoy dying my hair (if it wasn't obvious), I enjoy art and baking and any crafts! I have such a huge sweet tooth and my favourite activities, are the side quests that I do with my friends.

So no matter what, I keep smiling and laughing and enjoying the time that I have. Because every minute is precious and the greatest memories are the ones created.❤️
