Agile user stories are a tool used in Agile software development to capture a description of a software feature from an end-user perspective. They are usually written from the perspective of an end user or a customer to portray what they want from the system. The user story describes the type of user, what they want and why. A user story helps to create a simplified description of a requirement and focuses on the value or benefit the user gains from the feature. The typical format for a user story is:

"As a [type of user], I want [an action] so that [a benefit/a value]".

User stories are often recorded on index cards or sticky notes, stored in a shoe box, and arranged on walls or tables to facilitate planning and discussion. As such, they strongly shift the focus from writing about features to discussing them.
