Mpumelelo Nhlapo For Mr UJ

My name is Nhlapo, and I entered Mr UJ because I believe in advocating for academic inclusion and full student support, standing firmly behind the University of Johannesburg’s core values of inclusivity and impact.

A deep dive into my Advocacy

During my time working as a Registration Assistant, I gained firsthand insight into the challenges many students face when beginning their university journey. I witnessed the stress, uncertainty, and confusion that often accompany registration, accommodation, and accessing academic resources. While support systems exist, many students simply do not know about them or how to access them.

My own journey reflects this reality. I came to the University of Johannesburg from Mpumalanga with little understanding of how university life worked. I struggled to find accommodation and academic guidance—not because these services were unavailable, but because the information was not reaching students effectively.

The University offers countless opportunities, programmes, and support structures, yet only a portion of the student body benefits from them. My advocacy is focused on changing that. I want to champion clearer communication channels, greater awareness campaigns, and accessible platforms where every student knows what support is available and exactly where to go when they need help.

I envision a campus where no student feels lost, overlooked, or unsupported. By improving awareness and accessibility, we can ensure that every student has an equal opportunity to succeed and make a meaningful impact.
