About the Initiative

The Green Energy Workforce Development Initiative is a collaborative effort aimed at building expertise and promoting innovation within South Africa's emerging green energy sector.

This program is a partnership between The Education Support Forum (TEDSF), the Sasol Foundation, and the National Treasury's Jobs Fund.

With the ongoing energy challenges faced by Eskom, there is a critical need to develop a skilled workforce capable of driving and supporting sustainable energy solutions. This initiative seeks to empower unemployed South African youth by providing specialised training and opportunities in the green energy sector.

The program offers two years of specialised training that includes practical and theoretical aspects of renewable energy technologies, particularly focusing on solar energy. Participants will gain hands-on experience and knowledge that will prepare them for employment or entrepreneurial ventures in the green energy sector.

The recruitment and selection process for the program starts on the 1st of May 2024 until the 30th of August 2024. Successful candidates will be notified thereafter.

Participants are expected to emerge from the program with enhanced technical skills, jobs, or their own businesses in the renewable energy industry. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the national solution by supporting South Africa's transition to sustainable energy sources.
