The Education Support Forum Launches Major Green Energy Workforce Development Initiative Supported by The Jobs Fund

The Education Support Forum (TEDSF) proudly announces the launch of an ambitious Green Energy & Technology Workforce Development project, generously supported by The Jobs Fund and the Sasol Foundation. This initiative aims to address youth unemployment in South Africa by equipping young people with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in the growing renewable energy sector.

Project Overview

The Green Energy & Technology Workforce Development project is designed to empower South African youths, particularly those from underprivileged communities, by providing them with essential skills in renewable energy technologies. The project targets unemployed youths aged 18-35 who have had exposure to engineering at any post-secondary institution.

Key Goals and Impact

The primary objective of this project is to develop a skilled workforce in renewable energy, thereby enhancing employability and fostering entrepreneurship among the youth. By doing so, the project aims to tackle youth unemployment and contribute to the transition towards a greener economy. The comprehensive approach includes:

- Training & Skills Development: A curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with practical skills, tailored to meet industry needs.

- Placement Opportunities: Providing internships and job placements within the renewable energy sector to enhance employability.

- Entrepreneurial Support: Assisting students in establishing startups within the renewable energy industry.

- Holistic Approach: Overcoming psycho-social barriers through mentorship, career guidance, and support networks.

Expected Outcomes

- Training: The project will train 1,036 youths in renewable energy technologies.

- Employment: A high placement rate within project partners and the broader industry plus establishment of green businesses.

- Long-Term Impact: Reducing youth unemployment, creating more green entrepreneurs, and developing a skilled workforce to aid the green economy transition.

Supporting Sustainable Development Goals

This initiative aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. TEDSF encourages sustainable lifestyles, cultural diversity, human rights, and gender equality through its various projects.
