Meet Keketso Precious Jobo, a 21-year-old Mosotho girl born and raised in the mountain Kingdom of Lesotho. Keketso is not just a young woman from a small, landlocked country in the southern hemisphere of Africa; she is a symbol of passion, courage, and the power of dreams.

Keketso is currently a third-year student at the National University of Lesotho, pursuing a double major in Biology and Chemistry. But her interests and talents extend beyond the realm of academia. She is also a beauty queen, representing Lesotho at the Zuri Africa Queen pageant.

A Symbol of Cultural Pride

Keketso is proud of her Mosotho heritage. She often wears the traditional Mosotho girl attire, "thethana," a symbol of the Basotho identity. The fibers of the thethana are made using the leaves of a flowering plant from the Gazania family called tsikitlane, found in the Kingdom of Lesotho. The top is made of animal skin, and the attire is often adorned with accessories around the neck.

The Power of Dance and Song

In Lesotho, traditional dances and songs play a significant role in the community. They help children think for themselves, learn cooperation and teamwork skills, work on strategies and tactics, and learn how to hold a conversation with adults. "Litolobonya," a traditional dance done while singing, enhances trust among singers and dancers, fostering teamwork and unity.

Keketso is a beauty queen, living her ancestors' wildest dreams. She dares to walk on stages her great-great-grandparents could only dream of. She is Miss Culture Lesotho 2023 and Miss National University of Lesotho. She wears a crown that symbolizes who she is, what she is, and where she comes from. It's a constant reminder of her identity as a Mosotho.
