Acalytica Returns as a Partner of Mr & Miss UJ APK 2026

A night sky warming down to a lit horizon line, with all twenty finalists as circular medallions arranged in two ranks that rise above it and break the line. The back rank is smaller and slightly darkened to sit further away, the front rank larger and full

Twenty University of Johannesburg students are competing for the crown under the theme Unstoppable Horizon. For the fourth year running, Acalytica is behind them, providing the training, the infrastructure and the fundraising rails.

There is a moment in every pageant season, usually somewhere between the Top 30 announcement and bootcamp week, when a finalist realises the competition is no longer about the stage. It is about reach. It is about whether the people who would back them can actually find them, understand what they stand for, and act on it before the doors close.

That gap between having a message and having a way to deliver it is the one Acalytica exists to close. For the fourth year running, we are proud to be doing that work alongside the Mr & Miss UJ APK pageant at the University of Johannesburg's Auckland Park Kingsway campus.

Why we keep coming back

Mr & Miss UJ APK has never been a beauty contest, and the organising committee has been admirably stubborn about saying so. Contestants are assessed on poise, intellect, leadership and community impact. Every finalist runs on a named advocacy that they have to defend in an interview, live out in front of a community, and carry long after the sash comes off.

That makes it one of the most genuinely useful platforms in South African student life, and a natural fit for a company built to help creators, students and entrepreneurs grow an online presence without touching a line of code.

Our support runs across three areas.

Online presence training. Every finalist gets hands-on guidance on building and running a campaign page. How to write an advocacy so that a stranger understands it in ten seconds. How to structure a page so the vote button is never more than a scroll away. How to set page titles and descriptions so that a link shared in a WhatsApp group actually looks like something worth opening. Most of these students have never built a website before. By the end of the season they have one, and they understand why every element on it is there.

Infrastructure provision. Each contestant receives a hosted Acalytica page with their own address, their own design and their own analytics. The platform absorbs the traffic spikes that come with a campus-wide voting push, and it gives finalists something most student campaigns never have, which is data. Which channel is sending visitors. Which post worked. Whether the QR code on the res noticeboard is earning its paper. Campaigning on evidence rather than instinct is a skill that outlasts the pageant by decades.

Fundraising facilitation. Public voting is how the crowd has its say, so it needs to be quick and trustworthy. We provide the rails that let supporters vote in rands, by card or instant EFT, from a phone, in under a minute, with every contribution flowing through one transparent channel instead of a scatter of personal accounts. The result is a public vote that is easy to take part in and straightforward to reconcile.

The 2026 theme: Unstoppable Horizon

This year's theme asks contestants to look past the crown to whatever comes after it. It follows Radiance Through Resilience, which framed the 2025 season, and it lands differently. Less about surviving what has already happened, more about the distance still to cover.

Reading the twenty campaign pages back to back, the theme has clearly done its work. There is very little in this cohort about winning. There is a great deal about what each of them intends to build.

Miss UJ APK 2026, the Top 10

Nicole Frisley campaigns on Ubuntu, umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu, with four pillars aimed squarely at graduate unemployment: a connected student community, a bridge to employment, campus skills innovation, and a network that outlasts graduation.

Tenisha Gounder, a Psychology Honours student, founded The Wise Minds Foundation three years ago to break down mental health stigma through outreach and honest conversation. Her campaign is an extension of work that is already well underway.

Wandisa Maseko is a BCom Accounting student working towards CA, campaigning to close the financial literacy gap. Anchored in SDGs 4 and 8 and delivered through ABASA UJ and UJ Student Online Success, her argument is blunt: an educated generation should not also be an economically powerless one.

Rebantle Ndlovu is a model and a gender-based violence advocate, using her platform to insist that where you come from does not determine where you are going.

Nthato Mathebula runs She Calls The Game, pushing for women's representation in sports media, behind the microphone, behind the camera and in sports journalism. She is a first-year BA student in Politics and Marketing Management, and already a content creator in the very space she wants to open up.

Tlholohelo Smouse campaigns on constitutional literacy under Justice Beyond the Courtroom, built around six rights and a simple premise: rights only matter when people know they have them. She founded #HelpAGirlOut in 2021 and mentors in both her residence and the Faculty of Law.

Stacey Barrett advocates for a kinder generation, on the conviction that people want to be better and will be, given the opportunity. A BCom Accounting student and an Akani Dayhouse mentor, she calls the pageant a community contest rather than a beauty contest.

Siyamthanda Galela founded ChooseGrace, a mental health awareness campaign built on open campus conversations, journalling and safe spaces, for university students and school learners alike, and rooted in her own experience.

Katleho Mkhwanazi, a third-year LLB student, founded Beyond No, a consent education and rape awareness initiative teaching that consent is the presence of a clear, voluntary and ongoing yes, not merely the absence of a no.

Ntsoakie Mogotlane campaigns under HER, meaning healing, empowerment and resilience, backed by a pad drive at her residence and student wellness events. A third-year Public Management and Governance student, her line is that we have to heal our own stories before we can empower anyone else's.

Mr UJ APK 2026, the Top 10

Tinodashe Purazi, a BSc Computer Science and Statistics student and a professional model, campaigns on African pride and unity, offered directly as an answer to the divisions that surface among South African students.

Adam Mokobotedi is an award-winning student teacher from Lephalale in Limpopo and an aspiring Geography educator, campaigning on environmental sustainability and bringing the Sustainable Development Goals into everyday student habits.

Thapelo Nelson advocates for student empowerment through creative expression and authentic leadership. A third-year BA Communications student, a dancer and a poet, he is candid that he did not grow up confident and had to build it deliberately.

Malatsi Moilwe campaigns for the boy child, arguing that it is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men, and calling for spaces where young men can fail and rise again without judgement. His framing is explicitly not zero-sum: we rise together or not at all.

Mpumelelo Nhlapo campaigns on academic inclusion and visible student support. A former Registration Assistant who arrived from Mpumalanga knowing little about how university worked, he makes a sharp point: UJ's support structures exist, but the information about them does not reach the students who need it.

Mlungisi Sephoso came from Lesotho as an international first-year and campaigns under Unity Through Diversity, working to break down the cultural and language barriers that leave students isolated in a place that should feel like theirs.

Thebe Sechogo is a fourth-year Computer Science and Informatics student from Mafikeng and the Secretary General of Oppierif Men's Residence. A former Mentor of the Year, he campaigns for students who feel unseen or underestimated.

Marshal Guswani, Zimbabwean born and a member of UJ's International Student Executive, campaigns under Expansion in Abundance on the absence of queer, foreign and male participation in the arts. It is a gap he identified from the inside, as a cheerleader and an arts community builder.

Dumisani Ndlovu campaigns on education and empowerment, and runs a non-profit developing young leaders in township and rural communities. His formulation is worth quoting: education without empowerment is a certificate without a voice.

Bongani Xaba is a student social worker from eNqutu in KwaZulu-Natal and a YFHRI Gauteng Ambassador, campaigning on social justice and gender equality.

How to back a contestant

Every finalist has a dedicated voting link. Open their page above, choose to vote, and complete the payment in rands. You can vote as many times as you like, and in a public choice contest, volume genuinely counts.

The grand finale takes place on 5 September 2026 at the University of Johannesburg's Auckland Park Kingsway campus, where the 2026 titleholders will be crowned.

A note on what this is actually for

It would be easy to treat a campus pageant as a pleasant diversion. We think that reads it wrong.

Twenty students have spent this season learning to build a digital presence, articulate a position, defend it under questioning, run a fundraising campaign, and read the analytics that tell them whether any of it worked. Those are the skills of anyone who will ever have to launch something and convince people to care.

That is the same thing Acalytica was built to make possible, for creators, for entrepreneurs, and for anyone with something to say and no obvious way to say it at scale. Supporting Mr & Miss UJ APK for a fourth year is not sponsorship at the edge of our business. It is our business, pointed at twenty people who deserve the reach.

To the Class of 2026: the horizon is the point. Go past it.
